Bangalore, Oct 25: State medical education minister S A Ramdas has contended that the guidelines issued by the Centre on the proposal for holding an all-India common entrance test (CET) for admissions to professional courses lack clarity on allotment of seats and fee structure.
Ramdas said the union human resource development ministry despatched guidelines on the proposed CET for admissions of medical and engineering seats. The guidelines proposed to set aside 85 per cent of the seats to the state government and rest to the Centre’s quota.
The state government would not accept guidelines issued by the Centre as they would reduce the number of seats allocated to the state, the minister said pointing out that there was no clarity on the issue of allotment of seats in minority and non-minority institutions.
The government would accept the guidelines only if suitable changes were made, he said pointing out that the Tamil Nadu government has already rejected the Centre’s guidelines, he said.
All these years the state government has been holding the CET for admission of students for professional courses.
The minister said he would constitute an advisory board comprising educationists and experts from various fields to recommend suggestions to improve the quality of education in the medical filed.
Ramdas said the department would implement the High Court order with regard to recruitment of candidates in Hassan and Mysore medical colleges.
