Mangaluru, Oct 7: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that 16 oxygen producing units will start functioning in Dakshina Kannada (DK) with the cooperation of PM Cares Fund and various organizations.
Nalin was speaking after inaugurating two oxygen producing units at Wenlock hospital in the city.
He further said, “During the first and second waves of Covid, oxygen was being produced only from one unit. The requirement was met by getting supply from districts like Ballari and other states. However, action is now taken to install 16 oxygen producing plants in the district of DK including Wenlock and Lady Goschen hospitals. These units will function from the funds given by PM Cares Fund, CREDAI, MRPL, NHAI and banks.
“Going forward the chances of oxygen shortage will be very less. Now the Wenlock hospital is well-equipped than private hospitals due to these oxygen units,” he said.
Deputy commissioner (DC) Dr Rajendra K V said, “In total 16 oxygen producing units are installed in the district of Dakshina Kannada. Out of this 12, have started functioning completely and two are on experimental phase.”
MLA Vedavyasa Kamath, district surgeon and superintendent Dr Sadashiva Shanbhogue and health officer Dr Kishore Kumar were present.
