Mangaluru, Sep 30: As far as vaccinating people against Covid19 is concerned, Udupi district has bagged the third spot in the state. Dakshina Kannada has to be content with the fifth spot has achieved.
So far, Dakshina Kannada has achieved 86 percent progress in vaccination. The health department has also been trying to encourage those who have not opted to get vaccinated to change their minds by undertaking inspirational campaigns and providing more information.

The vaccination programme has been moving forward at full speed in the state. Bengaluru Bruhat Mahanagara Palike stands first in the state as far as vaccination is concerned with 100 percent, Kodagu has achieved 92 percent vaccination. Udupi has achieved 90 percent programme while Uttara Kannada (86.5%) and Dakshina Kannada (86%) are placed in the fourth and fifth spot respectively with a very thin margin.
In Dakshina Kannada, as far as those aged over 60 is concerned, 99.99 percent have got the first vaccination. 65.19 percent have got the second dose. Among the 45 to 59 age group, 96.85 percent have got the first dose while 55.07 percent have got the second. In the 18 to 44 age group, 69.8 percent have got the first dose with 28.89 percent getting the second dose.
As per the 2011 census, the health department had set for itself a target of vaccinating 17,32,500 people. But there were additions and the target was revised to 18 lac.
Many in Dakshina Kannada are getting vaccinations but special campaign is being launched in the district for those who have not so far opted to be vaccinated. Health department officials and ASHA workers will collect information about those who have not been vaccinated and to encourage them to get vaccinated. Therefore, the number of people getting vaccinated will go up, the officials of the health department stated.
