Mangaluru: Nursing student dies in hit-and-run accident on national highway at Nanthoor

Mangaluru, Sep 28: In a hit and run case that occurred on NH 66 near Nanthoor on Tuesday September 28, a college student died on the spot.

Manas Ramnath Ugale (27) of Pune origin in the state of Maharashtra is the unfortunate victim of this accident. He was a student of a private nursing college here.

Ugale was riding his Pulsar bike from Nanthoor to Pumpwell. He fell on the road when avoiding a water-filled pothole. A fish truck ran over his head. He had worn helmet which fell off his head when he fell, said eye-witnesses.

Traffic police were informed about the accident by passers-by.

    First our Mangaluru Nagarpalika should repair the roads which are damaged. We cannot avoid rains but repairing can be done. Very tragic. Feel very sad for this accident. Condolences to his parents who are far away snd all his near and dear ones. Om shanthi 🙏

    Really sad. Must be very difficult time for the family, whose potential future bread winner is gone. I am strongly in favor of either go for road expansion or have bike only lanes/roads within city limits. Roads are getting crowded and margin for error is decreasing every passing day.

    Kumara abudhabi,Kumara,not only bike riders but also other traffic travellers too.with one hand cant be clapped.Very tragic .very young chap,one more nurse is less ,son is no more due to others negligence.These Fish trucks have caused really enough and more accidents and deaths.May his soul rest in peace.Heartfelt sympathies to the family.these water ponds on roads are causing accidents.MCC should take notice of them and do the repairing.

What Mr. Lobo did when he was there as MLA... in the verge of celebration for around 15 minutes crackers bursted near KMC Jyothi. if you need the proof you can search the old news which was posted in 2014 May. I knew this incident as i witnessed, and they told that as thanksgiving procession, in respond they made people to wait for buses by blocking the roads and air pollution that too infront of hospital. Why the potholes were not repaired during 2014 -2019. Basically understand that all politicians are the same. for them its just business. behind the scenes all are friends and common people fight...

    Fix a date Oct 2 for checking potholes and Rs 10,000 fine for each pothole deducted from the salary of the concerned officer, NHAI or MCC.Collected funds to Ugale's account, apart from insurance and compensation.

    Horrible roads but always ready to fine people for silly things like number plates and what not. The Govt should really ask themselves if they have a conscience. This is extremely sad and pathetic and unfortunately not the only incident. The curse of these innocents won't go away just like that. And to the general public,pls wear your helmet strap always.

    Extremely sad and RIP to young student. Yes, concerned authorities are responsible for this innocent death. I see in some areas concreting is done for few service roads. In some areas concreting is done to widen the road which is just used for parking. However important roads like Nanthoor and many main areas are not at all taken care. Tax payers money is getting wasted for selfish intension. Blood of innocent will cry for irresponsible and corrupt people.

    just wearing da helmet is not enough. dey must buckle it correctly. most bike riders r not buckling da helmet. even if buckled & fell down and the tyer goes over it da helmet may crush or may slip. bike moves in da balance of a rider. so in a busy roads bike riders must keep vehicles 2 vehicles sufficient distance

    For those people who abuse govt for no reasons, Firstly, its NH 66 (national highway) for which the construction is under control of navayuga. And during rainy season these kind of incidents do happen a lot because water will be filled in the pothole and we cannot recognize if it's deep or not and try to avoid it in shorter distance with using indicators or also checking the mirror. Yes, young life has been lost, but it's also responsibility of people to ride safe especially during rainy season. And not to blame govt for each and every incidents which won't be under their control.

    This is not a hit and run case, it is only hit case because we can see a fish truck in one of the photos. What is the corporation doing? our PM says that his Government is builds roads but the existing roads are killer roads with potholes, no proper speed brakers and etc. Very sad our roads have taken away a young life, may his soul rest in peace.
