Mangaluru, Sep 25: Union minister for ports, shipping and waterways Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday September 24 announced that New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) will be building a gas terminal at Tannirbavi at a cost of Rs 3,200 crore.
He was speaking after participating in the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Indian Independence and inaugural ceremony of the Business Development Centre building built at Panambur.
Noting that Karnataka has been making giant strides in education, health, information technology and agriculture, he called upon the concerned to ensure that various programmes envisaged all round the year on the platinum jubilee year of Indian Independence becomes successful.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, said that the union government has sanctioned various projects to Dakshina Kannada district worth Rs 16,000 crore out of which the B C Road - Addahole road widening project will be completed by 2024. He said that work on Mangaluru - Karkala highway development too will begin soon.
Kateel also said that detailed project report for the long-awaited tunnel on Shirady ghat has been completed and the coast in general and the port here in particular will benefit as transportation will become easier. He also stated that the road earlier planned will be finalised as bypass road for Mulky - Kateel - Polali road.
City mayor, Premananda Shetty, participated as guest. NMPT president, Dr A V Ramana, welcomed. Vice president, K G Nath, proposed vote of thanks. Deputy mayor, Sunanda Rao and BJP district president, Sudarshan Moodbidri, were present.
On the occaison, prizes were handed over to winners of various competitions.
