Mangaluru, Sep 24: Dilna Rajesh, student studying in sixth grade of Kendriya Vidyalaya 2 situated at Yekkur in the city donated her hair to prepare a wig for cancer patients.
Dilna said, “I was nine when I decided to donate my hair. That is why I did not cut my hair for the past two years. On January 14, 2021 on the occasion of my 11th birthday, a decision was taken to donate my hair. However, due to Covid pandemic and lockdown this did not materialize.
“My hair was donated on September 22. My hair was cleansed and cut at Yacchu’s hair garage, who are experts in collecting hair for cancer patients, located at Paradise Streak building in Bejai New Road of the city. The collected hair was sent to the Hair bank managed by Miracle Charitable Association of Kerala, which manufactures wigs for cancer patients who are financially poor.
“The hair was donated after seeing the plight of cancer patients, whose hairs are falling, at the regional cancer center at Thiruvananthapuram. When new hair grows I will donate the same again to cancer patients,” she said.
Dilna is the daughter of Rajesh Kumar, reporter of Malayala Manorama daily for the city and K M Jamuna, lecturer at Yenepoya College of Arts, Science and Commerce. They are natives of Kankol of Payyanur in Kannur district of Kerala and reside at present in the city.
