Mangaluru, Sep 12: Since many days it is a common scene of traffic congestion on both the bridges at Kulur due to the huge potholes that are created.
Due to the potholes, the vehicles travel at snail’s speed which causes queues for many kilometers during rush hours of morning and evening. Many cars get damaged as their chassis touches the road.
Emergency vehicles like the fire service and ambulance are facing problems. People arriving at the airport and railway station from Udupi are not able to reach their destinations on time. The public has been requesting to repair the potholes, at least temporarily.
The construction work of a new bridge has just started at Kulur. It might take at least a year and a half for it to get completed. Till then traffic has to move on old bridges. Pedestrians are finding it very difficult to cross the bridges.
Underground drainage work is in progress at Kulur. Some trucks are parked by the side of the road. These trucks move over the silt that is piled at the edges of the road. This silt gets carried to the tar road when the trucks move on it. This causes danger to two-wheelers.
The project director of NHAI Shishu Mohan said that he is aware of the potholes on both the old bridges at Kulur and the same will be rectified once the rain subsides.
