Udupi: D V Calls on Centre, State to Accord Importance to Agriculture

Udupi, Oct 10: Member of parliament D V Sadananda Gowda said that it is important that state and central governments needs to prioritize agriculture for nearly 60 per cent of the population of the nation is still dependent on agriculture.

D V was speaking after inaugurating the two-day Krishi Mela organized by the Zonal Agricultural Research Station (ZARS), affiliated to the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, here at Brahmavar on Saturday October 9. However, it is regretful that price fluctuations were giving sleepless nights to farmers, which calls for appropriate support prices to the crops, he said.

MP also felt the need to provide Infrastructure facilities to the rural areas, thus arming farmers with modern technology in the times when there is shortage of labourers. He also reiterated that the government should support arecanut farmers in the state who are facing tough times.

Zilla panchayat member Bhujanga Shetty also spoke on the occasion.

ZARS associate director of research M Hanumantappa welcomed the gathering. Vice chancellor of University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Bangalore, K Narayan Gowda presided.

MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, managing trustee of Bharatiya Vikas Trust K M Udupa and research director at UAS, Bangalore H Shivanna among others were present.
