Moodbidri, Oct 5: “The state administration has been displaying step-motherly treatment in awarding pensions to Yakshagana artistes”, Kumble Sundar Rao, president, Karnataka Yakshagana Academy.
He was speaking at the programme organized to distribute funds to veteran Yakshagana artistes. The event was organized by Satyanarayana Puja Samiti Dubai at Samaja Mandir here on Tuesday October 5.
Yakshagana artiste Dr Prabhakar Joshi commended the humanitarian deed of the Samiti in supporting veteran Yakshagana artistes in the evening of their life.
Samiti office-bearer Giridar Nayak said that it’s a small contribution towards supporting elderly Yakshagana artistes and this would increase in future.
MLA K Abayachandra Jain, former state minister K Amaranath Shetty, M Vittal Prabhu, and Narayan Yekkar were also present.
M Shantaram Kudwa welcomed the gathering. Young entrepreneur Sudarshan M compered the programme.
Beneficiaries:
Kunjapatti, wife of late Chandragiri Ambu, was awarded Rs 7,000, Girish Rao – Rs 8,000, while Pakalakunj Krishna Nayak, Kolyur Narayan Bhat, Hosahitlu Mahalinga Bhat, Katukukke Koragappa Naik, Kervase Surendra Shenoy, Honnappa Gokarna and Janardhan Gurikar were awarded Rs 5,000 each.
Yakshagana Taalamaddale ‘Parthasarathya’ was staged after the stage programme and it was sponsored by Padmanabha Yekkar of Lima Management, Sharjah.
Veteran Bhagavat Balipa Narayan, Bhagavat Padmanabha Upadyaya, Ujire Devanand Bhat Mijar, Kumble Sundar Rao, Dr Prabhakar Joshi, Siddakatte Chennappa Shetty, and Tharanath Varkady participated in the Yakshagana Taalamaddale.
