Mangalore, Oct 4: The two-day national seminar on Konkani Ramayanas organized by Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation at the World Konkani Centre was concluded here on Sunday, October 3, 2010 with the wonderful rendition of Gamak recital and presentation by Gamak Vidwan Hosahalli Keshava Murthy and Dr Mathuru Krishnamoorthy. The duo presented Kumaravyasa’s “Sri Krishna Sarathya” from the Mahabharatha which enthralled the assembled gathering as they listened to the recital with great enthusiasm and interest. When Keshava Murthy rendered the Gamaka in his impeccable style Krishnamoorthy narrated the sequences in a mixture of Kannada, English and Malayalam languages for the benefit of the audience.
The one hour long Gamak rendition was a perfect finale to the two day brainstorming seminar that dealt extensively on Konkani Ramayans with eminent people from Goa, Kerala and Karnataka presenting papers on diverse topics of linguistics, literature and folklore in Konkani Ramayanas. Krishnamoorthy pointed out that while Ramayana dealt extensively on the righteous path Mahabharatha exemplified the practicality of life.
83 year old Dr Mathur Krishnamoorthy, Director of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan who was the chief guest at the valedictory function said that he was overwhelmed and inspired by the kind of work undertaken by World Konkani Centre for the community. He lauded the efforts of Konkani Sardar Basti Vaman Shenoy undertaken by him under the aegis of World Konkani Centre saying “if one person could such remarkable work for the community it can be done only with the grace of god”.
In the second day’s forenoon session Dr Rocky Miranda, Dr Madhavi Sardesai and Gokuldas Prabhu presented their papers which was presided over by Dr William D Silva. Dr Rocky Miranda spoke on Language of 16th Century Konkani Ramayana, Dr Madhavi Sardesai on 16th Century Ramayana text – Linguistic Perspective and Gokuldas Prabhu presented a paper on Vocabulary of Godde Ramayana and Prose Ramayana. The afternoon session was presided over by Ramesh Veluskar in which Dr Jayanthi Naik, Dr Panduranga Phaldesai and Gopala Gowda presented their papers giving an insight into these topics to the audience. Dr Jayanthi Naik presented a paper on Godde Ramayana and Ramayan Ranamale, Dr Pnduranga Phaldesai dealth with Ramayana in Konkani folklore and Gopala Gowda on Ramayana tradition among Kudmis. There were interactive sessions after the presentations of each paper that gave the audience an opportunity to interact with the presenters.
Dr H Shantharam, President All India Konkani Parishad, Basti Vaman Shenoy, Gokuldas Prabhu, R S Bhaskar were on the dais for the valedictory function. Venkatesh Baliga introduced the guests. Gurudutt Bantwalkar proposed the vote of thanks.
