Mangalore, Oct 4: A function was organized on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti at Roman and Catherine Lobo School for the Blind, which was also the first anniversary on Saturday October 2.
Roberts, a visually impaired person and Andhara Chalana Valana Kendra, former project manager was the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Roberts recalled his association with the Rotary Mobility Centre. He further stressed that if trained correctly the visually impaired persons can also face the challenges of the world. He narrated some incidents from Gandhiji's life.
Student Annapoorna spoke about the importance of Gandhi Jayanti celebrations.
P Muralidhar Pai, senior manager, State Bank of India, the members of the Mangalore Coastal Round Tabler's Association and GSB Mahila Bhajana Mandali, Gandhinagar were present.
The members of GSB Mahila Bhajana Mandali donated Panasonic refrigerator to the institution.
The programme began with a prayer song by Bhavya followed by garlanding of the portrait of mahatma gandhi by MCRT chairman. Pradeep welcomed the guests. Divya Nayak, teacher introduced guest of honour. Dr U V Shenoy, co-ordinator of RCLSB honoured Roberts.
The programme continued with the songs by Nityanand and Shashikala. Later, students of the school sung group song and performed a dance skit, Punyakoti.
Principal Calistus D'Sa proposed the vote of thanks.
