Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 22: Dakshina Kannada on Sunday August 22 reported 286 new coronavirus cases and four deaths, while Udupi registered 132 new cases and two deaths. Though lower than the 300-mark, Dakshina Kannada's single-day tally was still the highest among all districts in the state for the day.
As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 14,58,667 samples have been tested so far, out of which 13,50,710 have turned out to be negative.
The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 1,07,957, out of which 3,037 are currently active.
As many as 418 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,03,385.
The district recorded four deaths due to coronavirus on Sunday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 1,535, out of which five are non-Covid deaths.
The positivity rate in the district stands at 3.45%.
The district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.
So far, the district administration has collected Rs 1,03,92,420 as fine in 85,385 incidents of mask violation.
Udupi
As per the district health bulletin, as many as 8,92,656 samples have been tested so far.
As many as 132 new cases were reported on Sunday, taking the total number of cases to 72,790 out of which 1,543 are currently active.
A total of 86 patients were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, taking the total number of recoveries to 70,807.
Out of 132 new patients, 112 are in home isolation while 20 are in Covid-designated hospitals.
Among the 132, as many as 63 are symptomatic and 69 asymptomatic.
While Udupi taluk reported 83 of the 132 cases, Kundapur recorded 11, Karkala 38.
Coronavirus has claimed 440 lives in the district so far. Two deaths were reported on Sunday. The persons who passed away were a 75-year-old woman from Udupi and a 56-year-old man from Kundapur.
So far, 6,08,590 people have received the first dose of vaccination, while 2,26,328 have received the second dose.
A total of 51 cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported in the distrinct so far, out of which, 3 are currently active.
