Belagavi, Aug 21: Many people have curiosity about life inside the jail. Those who are interested to personally find out, will soon get an opportunity to find the answer to the question on their own.
The officials of Hindalga central prison here have started a scheme with a new concept of 'a day in the life of a prisoner' as per which the tourists get a chance to get the experience of being behind bars for 24 hours. It is learnt that the officials, who have approached the government for its approval for the scheme, are awaiting permission.
The prison officials said that people opting to stay in jail will be looked after just like prison inmates. Right from morning, till night, they will be allowed to lead the life of a prisoner. They will be given a prison uniform, number, room, food etc and also the work which is assigned to other prisoners.
The jail staff wake the prisoners at 5 am. They are asked to clean the rooms before tea is given. An hour later they get breakfast followed by rice and sambar at 11 am. At 7 pm, they get dinner. For one or two days in a week they get non-vegetarian food. At the end of their day they have to collect their beds and lay down with others on the floor. For giving a natural feeling, chances of them getting locked in rooms cannot be ruled out, the officials said.
The tourists may come face to face with some dreaded criminals known for senseless murders and robberies, serial rape, cold blooded murders and other offences during the stay, the officials explain.
