Udupi, Aug 21: Sunil Kumar, minister of Energy, Kannada and Culture, on Saturday August 21, expressed his concerns over the tense situation in Afghanistan.
He said, “The actions of the Taliban have made us bow our heads in shame. It shows the mentality of the Taliban. There are violations of human rights. There is no safety for children and women. The Taliban are following their own law disregarding all the human laws. Their terrorist activities are a warning call to the world. All the countries in the world should think about it. Our prime minister has said that such violence is temporary. The countries in the world should unite and become one to face this situation.
“The violence is likely to spread to other countries. India will have to be all the more alert. There is a fear of our youth being misled due to the teachings the doctrine of Taliban. Such a practice is being followed in some states and districts. BJP had predicted the style of administration by Taliban earlier itself. We can see it in Afghanistan now. Such forces should not be glorified at any cost,” he said.
On celebration of Ganesha Chaturthi, he said, “We intend that Ganesha festival should be celebrated with pomp and gaiety this year. We have the fear of the Corona third wave in front of our eyes. Both the religious celebrations and health are equally important. The government has prepared a formula in this connection. There will be an announcement to prevent setbacks to the celebrations of the festival. The corona positivity rate is different from district to district. The gatherings of people can pose health risks. The government will be preparing an intermediate formula with regard to faith and health.”
“Regarding rescue of Kannadigas stranded in Afghanistan, the chief minister and the home minister have held meetings at various levels. The government is trying its best and the diplomatic channels are active in this connection,” he said.
“The schools on Udupi borders will not reopen on Monday as the Covid positivity rate is still high. The schools in other parts of the district will open on Monday. The argument that schools are open in other districts is not right. It is everybody’s duty to control Covid,” he said.
