Mangaluru, Aug 16: A Muslim youth, showing exemplary presence of mind, had rushed a person who suffered grievous injuries in a road accident and was lying in a pool of blood, to a hospital and saved his life. In recognition of his kind gesture and to show their gratitude, the villagers invited him to their village and felicitated him as a measure of expression of their appreciation. This rare incident happened at Yekkar near Kateel.
On August 5 this year, a local leader and honorary president of 'Kaidanda Yuvaka Mandala', Chandrashekhar Rai, was injured in a road accident and was lying on the road. Mohammed Shafique from Kinnigoly Guthakadu (Shantinagara), who was passing by that road on his way to Bajpe, had immediately taken Rai in his car to a private hospital in the city and admitted him there.
In recognition of the humanitarian gesture of Shafique, 'Kaidanda Yuvaka Mandal' which is celebrating its decennial, felicitated Shafique at the function it had organized at Yekkar to celebrate Independence Day. At the invitation of Shafique, over ten members of the Yuvaka Mandal also took part in the blood donation camp held at KJM hall at Guthakadu on the occasion of the Independence Day and donated blood.
Shafique Guthakadu had also helped a number of injured people during the lockdown period, who had suffered injuries in accidents which happened in and around Balkunje by shifting them to hospitals.
