Mumbai, Sep 22: Two brothers were allegedly stabbed to death in a tiff over a missing name in the pamphlet of a Ganesh mandal in Pydhonie on Monday night. The police arrested three men for assault and murder.
An officer from the Pydhonie police station said, “The incident took place at the Mandvi Rahivashi Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandal celebrating its 50th year on Monday. To mark the occasion, the organisers had printed a booklet highlighting the work done by the mandal. Two men — Santosh Punekar (34) and Parmeshwar Punekar (25)— along with their nephew Navinchandra Bhole (19) got into an argument with Sharad Matekar (36), the president of the mandal and his brother Bharat (35).
According to them, the booklet did not make a mention of Bandu Punekar, the deceased father of the accused who he said was an influential member of the mandal. The argument soon turned ugly between the two parties and Navinchandra allegedly took out a knife and slashed the duo. The accused also assaulted Matekars with bamboo sticks and a chopper.”
