Udupi, Aug 3: From Monday August 2 onward, anti Covid vaccination has begun for the people in the age group of above 18 years of age. Youngsters queued up before the vaccination centres from early morning on Monday. Some centres saw people reaching there by 4 am for vaccination.
The district was set a target of 28,000 vaccinations on Monday. The district could vaccinate 28,625 people on a single day. People were seen standing in the line and collecting tokens. In some centres, crowds were formed and some people who failed to get tokens argued with the staff.

The state government had initially vaccinated people aged above 60 and in phases, the vaccination was extended to cover those aged above 45. In July, priority groups as defined by the centre were vaccinated including college and diploma students aged above 18. Now, all the priority groups have been merged and first and second doses of the vaccines are being administered.
The district has so far vaccinated 1.82 lac people. As per the state Covid war room report, Udupi district stands second in vaccination with 62.55 percent achievement in vaccinations. The first place is taken by Bengaluru city which has achieved 86.76 percent. Dakshina Kannada stands third with 55.91 percent followed by Mysuru where the percentage stands at 55.8.
