Udupi, Jul 30: Prathul, 5-year-old son of Raja Kharvi and Pallavi, residing at Padukere near Parampalli under Saligrama town panchayat limits, has been diagnosed with bilateral profound hearing loss since an early age.
After consultations with various surgeons, the parents have decided to go forward with the treatment of the child. He will be undergoing cochlear implantation surgery on Saturday July 31 at Jain Hospital Vasanth Nagar, Bengaluru, and post-operation speech therapy courses at Manasa cochlear implant and ENT Centre, Bengaluru.
The approximate cost of implementation to both ears and other medical cost will come up to Rs 16-18 lac. With help from Good Samaritans and other sources, the parents have succeeded to generate Rs 7 lac till date. With the available aid, the child will be operated upon on Saturday, which will enable to help him hear through one of his ears.
Raju's father is fisherman by profession. Along with that, he runs an auto-rickshaw. Mother Pallavi is a private staff.
Speaking with daijiworld, Pallavi said, “Prathul was very active in the first two years. We came across the issue later and hence started communicating with him using sign language. Due to the pandemic, the surgery got delayed.”
