Mangalore, Sep 14: ‘Alva’s Nudisiri – 2010,’ the seventh such annual Kannada cultural extravaganza, organized by Alva's Education Trust, will be held from Friday October 29 to Sunday October 31.
Dr Mohan Alva, chairman, Alva's Education Trust, said that this year litterateur Vaidehi will preside over the event. This is the first time in the history of Alva’s Nudisiri that a woman is presiding over the whole programme.
Janaki Shrinivas Murthy, whose pen name is Vaidehi, was born in Kundapur on 12 February, 1945, and has done her BCom. She is a popular Kannada fiction writer and poet, renowned for her espousal of the cause of women.
Her writings have been translated in various languages like Gujarati, Tamil, Hindi, Malayalam, and English.
Her writings, generally described as postmodernist, depict the plight of women in an indignant and rebellious tone. In fact, it is said that her creative self blossomed as a result of her encounters with patriarchy, in search of her personal freedom.
Litterateur Dr N Damodar Shetty and lecturer-journalist Harish were also present at the press conference.
