Udupi: Two accused of intoxicating, murdering man get life terms

Udupi, Jul 23: Judge of the chief district and sessions court here, Subahmanya J S, pronounced a judgement on Thursday July 22 in which he awarded life term sentences to two persons charged with the said murder.

Andrew Martis alias Annu Porbulu, a coolie by profession, used to deride the family members of Rajendra and Santhosh by using derogatory words when drunk. This had angered his friends. Two years back, Rajendra Naik (49) from Pernankila and Sathosh Poojary (41) from Moodubelle Kattingeri reportedly murdered Andrew Martis after getting him fully drunk.

On January 25, 2019 morning, Rajendra and Santhosh came to Chetana wine shop where they told Andrew that he had to attend Shamiyana related work that day. Andrew consumed liquor and his friends had bought another parcel of liquor for him, after which he was taken to a thicket in Takadabail, Kattingeri in Kaup taluk. Once they reach there, they bound Andrew with a rope, clubbed him with stick, tightened nylon rope around his neck by pulling the other end of the rope that was tied to a tree.

Police circle inspector Mahesh Prasad, conducted investigation into the crime. On April 8, 2019, Shantharam had filed charge sheet in the court. The court examined 12 major witnesses. As many as 29 documents had been listed. The prosecution was represented by public prosecutor, Shanthi Bai.
