Mangaluru, Jul 21: The chief district and sessions court here has awarded punishment to a person who was accused of using fake passport, after the charge was found to have been proved. Judge of the court, Muraleedhar Pai, announced the judgement.
The person who was found guilty and sentenced in the case happens to be Abdul Basheer alias Basheer (45), residing near Kanhangad beach in Kasargod district.
Basheer had travelled to Dubai via Mangaluru airport by using a passport belonging to someone else on August 17, 2010 by pasting his photo on the photo existing in the original passport. At Dubai, his mischief was detected by the immigration authorities at Dubai. They had therefore deported him back to India. Case under different provisions of the Passport Act was registered against him.
In this case, charge sheets were also filed against Ukkas, Muhammed Kunhi and Muneer K, who were accused of helping him to procure fake passport. While Basheer appeared for court hearings, the others had remained elusive. Therefore, the case was split and Basheer alone was subjected to trial. The first additional senior judicial magistrate had ordered for the release of Abdul Basheer on February 19, 2019. The prosecution challenged this order in the chief district and sessions court by way of an appeal. The court upheld the appeal.
The judge awarded one year imprisonment and fine of Rs 1,000 to Basheer through a judgement delivered on July 19 after finding that his guilt was proved. The prosecution was represented by public prosecutor, Raju Poojary Bannadi.
