Kaup, Jul 20: In a tragic incident that occurred at Ermal in the district, a two wheeler rider died when a Peacock hit his head as it was flying from one end of the road to the other causing the rider to fall on the road.
Deceased is identified as Abdullah (24), resident of Belapu village. He was working in a mobile phone shop. Abdullah was going from Belapu village to Padubidri on his two wheeler on NH 66. A peacock which was trying to cross the highway flying over the road, hit Abdullah’s head. The deceased lost the control of the vehicle and crashed against the divider of the road and died on the spot. The peacock also died due to the impact of the accident.
Post mortem of the deceased was conducted in Padubidri government hospital. A case in this connection was registered at Padubidri police station.
Menace of peacocks is increasing in Kaup taluk. They are destroying the crop in paddy fields. The birds also walk and fly on the highway. Local people representative Zaheer urged the forest department to take corrective action immediately.
