Mangaluru, Jul 15: Harish Bangera who was arrested and imprisoned by the Saudi authorities for making blasphemous comments on the Saudi Crown Prince and Mecca, the holy site of Muslims across the world, is set to be released and will be arriving at his native soon.
Sathish Kumar Bajal, president of Mangaluru Association Saudi Arabia (MASA) informed that Harish Bangera will be back soon. The MASA has paid for the flight tickets. Satish also thanked the Indian Embassy, Indian Overseas Forum, Manikantan, Mohammed Shareef, Dammam, Prasanna Bhat, Riyadh, Prakash Poojary, Riyadh, Kamalaksha Adyar, Al Kober, Joyson and others for their help in the release of Harish Bangera.
It may be recalled that Harish Bangera who hails from Kundapur, was working as an AC technician in Damman. He had landed in trouble for allegedly uploading a blasphemous and provocative post on Facebook on December 21, 2019.
As the post came to the attention of Saudi authorities, the police in Dammam arrested him within an hour after the complaint was made.
Harish's employers too terminated him from the job with immediate effect.
The incident has become a grave reminder to Indians staying in Gulf and Middle East countries against uploading any blasphemous or objectionable posts and pictures online, relating to religious beliefs. Cyber rules are very strict and the authorities are known to take immediate and stringent action against anyone posting inflammatory comments on social media.
