Udupi, Jul 13: An order for the removal of a member of the Local Complaint Committee (LCC) has stirred controversy in the district. The district deputy commissioner's order to remove a member that he appointed himself is being panned by netizens.
Sahana Kunder a young advocate from Udupi was appointed as a member of the LCC under the Women's Commission. An appointment letter was also sent to her which stated that her appointment was ordered by the DC on July 5. Sahana received the appointment letter on July 8. Later that evening at 9:45 pm, Sahana received a call from an officer of the Udupi Women's Commission who told her that the appointment has been put on hold.
Speaking to Daijiworld, Sahana said, "I had received an offer to be a member of LCC three months back. Due to lockdown and other issues, the appointment letter was provided to me on July 8. I had posted the same on my social media and it was largely shared among my family and friends. But on the same day at 9:45 pm, I received a call stating that my appointment was put on hold. At first, I was taken aback, because the time I was conveyed the information was rather odd. I met DC G Jagadeesh on Monday, July 12, seeking clarification on the matter as he had signed the order. But, when I did, he responded stating that he had removed me as a member of the committee. Upon again pressing the reason behind the removal, he replied stating that a police verification was pending," she said.
Sahana shared the incident on her social media accounts attracting a lot of support in her favour. "I do not know how to face my family who was elated on the news of my appointment. I believe there is a political vendetta behind this. I had asked for a GP ticket to contest from the Belman gram panchayat as a BJP candidate, which was not given to me. I contested independently and won the election and also became the vice-president of Belman gram panchayat. This has been a subject of discussion in political circles, which makes me doubt if there is politics at play here," she said.
