Karkala, Jul 12: “I will file a defamation case against Karkala BJP MLA Sunil Kumar and other BJP leaders for calling me a traitor," said Radhakrishna Hirgana.
Addressing a press meet in Monday July 12 here, he said, “I had filed a complaint over a fake Facebook profile in my name at Gangamma Gudi police station in Bengaluru on August 26, 2020. As the police called me to file a complaint again, I had filed a new complaint on September 4, 2020. The one who created the fake account had even called the owner of the bakery where I was working and succeeded in getting me removed from my job.
“On April 4, 2021, I was hospitalised due to cardiac arrest. I had undergone treatment at a private hospital in Manipal. I received a notice from Karkala police station to attend an inquiry on April 23. As the police sub inspector (SI) Madhu was not in the station, they took my statement and asked me to appear before the SI again. I visited the station three times after that. On July 9, when I visited the station for the fourth time, the police asked me to submit the copy of the complaint which I had filed in Bengaluru. I informed them that due to lockdown I could not get the copy of my complaint. At this point of time, the SI called the complainant from Karkala who had filed a case against me and beat me in front of them. He later took me for medical test at Karkala government hospital.
"It is an injustice to me and my family to call us traitors. Being in a respectful position and without knowing the truth, the Karkala MLA has called me a traitor. Why the police did did not take any action since a year? I had even signed the visitors’ book of the police station every time. I am ready to face any punishment if it is proved that I had posted objectionable content against Indian Army and soldiers," he said.
A FIR has been registered against Karkala SI Madhu in relation with the case. Radhakrishna Hirgana had accused the SI of beating him when he was called to attend an inquiry.
The complaint is registered at Manipal police station.
