Mumbai, Jul 10: Nawab Malik, NCP chief and cabinet minister urged the union government not to disturb the Covid vaccination drive due to the want of vaccines.

According to ANI, Malik said, reacting to a statement of Dr Bharti Pravin Pawar, the newly inducted union minister for health, that the minister says that no one should play politics with regards to supply and administration of Covid vaccine. However, despite the statistics of the supply of vaccines claimed by the union government, the vaccines are not supplied to states on time. For the same reasons, many vaccination centers in the city are closed.

Dr Bharti Praveen had issued a statement saying that the state and central governments should work in tandem and not play politics in the matter of vaccination in order to keep the Covid pandemic at bay.

BMC in a statement said that the vaccination drive will not take place on Friday July 9 due to a shortage of vaccines. Dr Rajesh Dere, dean of BKC Jumbo and Covid centre said that the state is facing an acute shortage of vaccines and hopes that the union government sends the supplies on time.

Dr Dere further stressed that the third wave can be kept at bay only if the state administers at least 30 to 40 percent of the population with the second dose of the vaccine.

BMC had suspended the vaccination on July 1 also for the shortage of vaccines.
