Mangalore, Sep 9: Both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts received uninterrupted rains for long periods on Wednesday September 8. Because of heavy rains, several roads including the national highway 17, state highway stretch between Padubidri and Karkala, and Subrahmanya-Harikara Road through Ainekidu, have become so bad that driving through them has become a daunting task.
Buses have stopped plying on Subrahmanya-Harihara Road, making it difficult for commuters and students to reach their destinations. Because of heavy rains, rivers and rivulets are overflowing, and water level in River Netravati has gone up. Artificial floods were reported because of improper drains in places like Vittal.
Because of huge waves experienced in the deep sea, purse seine boats have suspended fishing activities and returned to fishing ports. The schedules of a few flights operating from the local airport were disrupted due to rains on Wednesday.
Agumbe recorded highest rain of 12 cms, while the coast received between four and nine cms
of rain on Wednesday.
