Puttur, Jul 8: Alpe Jinnappa from Panja in Sullia taluk, who is a poor labourer, celebrated the silver jubilee of his marriage by making wall paintings on the compound wall of his house. Jinnappa happens to be a neo-literate.

Many want to celebrate their marriage anniversary or birthday in a unique manner. They plan to share their joy and celebrate the day in the company of others. Some try to help others or give messages to society these days. A person who does this need not be an ultra-rich person, intellectual or a high-ranking official. Even an ordinary coolie can undertake such things. This fact has been proved by a poor labourer from Dakshina Kannada district, who has made the celebration of the silver jubilee of his marriage very unique and special.

Jinnappa, who recently learnt how to read and write, had fought the gram panchayat election last time. He had entered the fray as an independent candidate by pooling campaign expenses from the villagers. However, he did not register a victory. However, as per the promise he made in his election manifesto of serving the people, Jinnappa indulges in social activities.

He is in the news now by celebrating the silver jubilee of his marriage in a special way. He has been creating wall paintings on this compound wall around his house. The paintings are aimed at creating awareness among the people. Suresh from Ballakka near Panja, a professional painter who is known for his paintings on cinema sets, has been creating these paintings. A boy planting a sapling with an oxygen cylinder on his back, awareness painting on coronavirus vaccination, literary campaign, water conservation awareness painting in which a tap has been fitted to the earth, garbage disposal etc draw the attention of onlookers. Jinnappa plans to create environmental awareness and also bring the current reality with the purpose of giving the people a clear message.

Jainappa is a neo-literate and he has helped illiterates from his village to learn something. Jinnappa is involved with activities about becoming literate, cleanliness etc. Instead of celebrating happy occasions at home within the four walls, he wants to share his happiness with society. He says he undertook this project with the aim of giving the people a good message at a time when he has an occasion to celebrate.
