Bengaluru, Jul 7: Four new faces from Karnataka are to be inducted into the union cabinet as Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government opts for reshuffling. This also includes Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje who was asked to be present in Delhi on Wednesday.
Karandlaje who belongs to the Vokkaliga community is a well-known face of BJP in coastal Karnataka and is likely to get a prominent post in the union cabinet.
Karandlaje was born on October 23, 1966, to the late Monappa Gowda and Poovakka in a small village called Charvaka in Dakshina Kannada. She holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from Mangalore University, and MA in Sociology from Mysuru University.
She won the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency by a margin of 3.49 lac votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the highest margin ever acquired by a female candidate in Karnataka.
Apart from MP Shobha, the other three names from Karnataka are Bhagwanth Gurubasappa Khuba from Bidar, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Rajya Sabha MP, Chitradurga MP Narayan Swamy.
