Bengaluru, Jul 6: In a major reshuffle of governors of different states ahead of the cabinet expansion cum revamp of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, Thawarchand Gehlot has been dropped from the cabinet and named as Karnataka’s governor.
Thawarchand Gehlot was serving as union minister for social justice and empowerment. He will now take over from Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala.
It may be recalled that Gehlot had in the past served as BJP national general secretary and party in-charge for Karnataka.
A Rashtrapathi Bhavan communique from New Delhi announced eight changes cum appointments as governors of different states.
The appointment of the new governors will come into effect from the date when they resume office in the respective states, the communique said.
The other changes involve the transfer of P S Sreedharan Pillai as the governor of Mizoram to Goa.
Satyadev Narayan Arya has been transferred from Haryana and appointed governor of Tripura while the present Tripura governor Ramesh Bais has been shifted to Jharkhand.
The Himachal Pradesh governor Bandaru Dattatreya has transferred to Haryana while Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar will be the new governor of Himachal Pradesh.
The other appointments are Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel as governor of Madhya Pradesh and Dr Hari Babu Kambampati as the new governor of Mizoram.
