Mangalore, Sep 8: Representatives of various organizations, industries, and banks held a protest in front of the DC’s office as part of the all-India strike on Tuesday September 7, opposing the violation of labour laws, and price hike.
Sharath Holla of the All India Bank Employees Association said that the petrol and diesel price hike has led to a hike in the prices of all other essential commodities in the market which has made life difficult for the middle class.
Madhava, convenor, JCTU, said that the prices of essential commodities must be controlled for the benefit of the poor. He urged the government to provide 35 kgs of rice for the poor and middle classes at subsidized rates of Rs 2 per kg.
“The system of contract labour should be eliminated and 3 percent of the GDP should be set aside for the welfare of unorganized workers, who comprise 90 percent of the working class”, he urged.
Chandrahas Ullal of BSNL, Sunil Kumar Bajal, and Mohammed Rafi participated in the protest.
