Gadag, Jul 5: Amruth, a physically disabled person since birth, does not have any fingers in both his hands. Both his legs too do not have proper growth of toes. To help to carry on with life, he had applied for and was sanctioned with a monthly pension. But for the last 18 months, the pension has not been received and he has been moving from pillar to post to see that his pension is restored.
Amruth (23) from Gangapur town in the city, has no fingers or toes. He was getting pension and was also working in a provision store on daily wage basis. As his bank account was not linked to Aadhar number, his pension was stopped. A change has to be recorded in the Aadhar number to make this happen but when he visits the Seve Kendra to get the changes recorded, they seek thumb impression. He is unable to meet this request as he does not have a thumb.
Amruth has visited various offices but there is no solution to the problem. His pension stopped coming from 2019 after the bank account was linked to Aadhar card. When he went to the bank, the officials found that the Aadhar card does not have his mobile number. For linking the two, the Seva Kendra employees demand his thumb impression. He approached the department but they have been making him to shuttle between different offices. As a result, Amruth is living without pension for the last one and half years.
The government has created the disabled pension for people like him. Because of his own disability, he is not in a position to link the bank account to Aadhar. Will the officials do something to help Amruth? One hopes they do.
