Bengaluru: Revenue of excise department increases by 55% despite lockdown

Bengaluru, Jul 3: The state excise department released its trimester report in which it has shown that the revenue has increased by 55% despite two months of lockdown. This is closer to the yearly target of the department.

Last year, during the first lockdown, the revenue of the excise department had seen a huge slump. But this time around, the government gave relaxation for liquor shops to do business during the lockdown, causing an increase in revenue.

In the first trimester from April to June, the excise department earned a revenue of Rs 5,954.07 crore. This is 55% more than that of last year for the corresponding period.

The budget of the excise department for 2021-22 is Rs 24,580 crore. The department has already achieved 24.2% of the target. According to department sources, 154.19 lac cartons of IMF and 45.38 lac cartons of beer was sold in the first trimester.
