Puttur, Jul 2: Miscreants have distorted the statue of Mahatma Gandhi installed near the KSRTC bus stand here.

The spectacles attached to the statue have been removed and placed over the statue's head. A T-shirt has been placed over the head portion and the eyeglass have been kept atop the shirt. This is clearly an act of some perverts.

After the Gandhikatte Samithi conveyed information about the incident, Puttur deputy superintendent of police, Gana P Kumar, along with the inspector of the town station, Gopal Naik, visited the spot and saw for themselves what the miscreants had done.

The statue was earlier located near the peepal tree in the KSRTC bus stand area here. It had later been shifted to a separate shelter created for the purpose. Thereafter, when hi-tech bus stand was constructed, earth had been dug near the shelter of the statue and the Ashwathakatte as a result of which the Gandhi Mantap and the tree were about to collapse. Later, the platform and the Gandhikatte were brought down to the level of the road, and after renovation works, the statue was installed there. Now the statue has been defaced and the police are making an effort to find the culprits.
