Karkala: Health centre at Belman - Model that deserves emulation

Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala (SP)

Karkala, Jul 2: It is normal for the people to keep away from government hospitals as far as possible as their opinions about the government facilities have not been good. But the government hospital at Belman in the taluk and the services offered by the doctors there deserve to be hailed as they stand out as a model for the entire system of running government hospitals.

The doctors presently working in the government primary health centre, Belman, are acceding to the requirements of the patients and serving them well. The local patients therefore approach the government health centre instead of going to private hospitals as they are assured of best services here.

Dr B Balakrishna Rao, medical officer of the centre, has been serving here for the last ten months. The villagers keep saying that after he came here, the services at the hospital have shown a marked improvement. Considering his services, he had been honoured with the best service award in 2017.

Now, even people from far off places like Padubidri, Nandikoor, Sacheripet and Surathkal come here to get treated.

Cleanliness has been given the highest preference here. Even during the Covid pandemic, the team of doctors here had provided best services to the patients. They have also shown great care and interest in the vaccination drive.

The villagers here have high praise for the doctors here. They feel they are lucky to have such a great team at the primary health centre here and say that because of the services they get here, which are better than the private hospitals, people from the area prefer to get themselves treated here.

During this very difficult pandemic situation to maintain such high standard of selfless service it requires great dedication and humanitarianism. Heard from my aged and ailing mother about the systematic and super quality of service there. Kudos to Dr Rao and his team. Feeling proud to be a Belmanite because of you

I congratulate the the Daijiworld Media Network team for the report on Belman Primary Health Center appreciating the good work done by the doctors there. Certainly, if honest work is put in by all concerned, our Government institutions can play an useful role in improving the conditions of our people. Every Govt. servant should always think that he is a fortunate person as he has got a chance to serve the needy people. Further, these days, t they are paid well and provided with good facilities. if they work honestly, their work is always appreciated. But the real problem with our Govt. institutions is that their services are not utilised by educated or even by middle-class people thinking that their services will always be poor and private sector is better. We have to change this wide-spread wrong mentality and start patronising govt. institutions. If middle-class and educated people make it a practice to patronise them, certainly people serving in those institutions will be further motivated to improve their services. But if we think that these institutions are meant only for poor, illiterate and unfortunate ones, then they tend to deteriorate and turn into cow-sheds as it is happening at present in many places.Hence let us start patronising them so as to through constant interactions, appreciations and/or criticisms improve their functioning. Let us start this initiative at least in our State in these days of Covid-19 catastrophe!

Mr. Lan, a feather is added to your Belman cap. My relative who took vaccine there also told me that the Belman health centre is very nicely organised.
