Udupi, Jun 28: The state home minister and district in-charge Basavaraj Bommai instructed the district administration to pass a resolution and send it to the government to takeover Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Memorial Haji Abdullah Mother & Child Hospital. The decision was made at a review meeting held on Monday, June 28.
Speaking at the review meet home minister Bommai said, "The hospital administration has written a letter to the state government regarding its inability to operate the hospital. The district administration needs to pass a resolution and send the required to me. I have spoken with the chief minister and also with the health minister regarding this issue. The principal secretary has responded positively. On July 1, I will be meeting the chief minister to discuss the issue. Earlier we had one unit for a 70-bed hospital, the government will be acting promptly on this matter. Staff positions for the 130-bed hospital will decided by the government. The facility will also be helpful during the third wave of Covid which is likely to largely affect the children," he said.
The hospital was inaugurated on November 19, 2017, with state-of-the-art infrastructure and medical facilities. The hospital also reached a milestone with 10,000 deliveries in March 2021.
The administration of BR Life recently wrote a letter to the state government regarding its inability to maintain the Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Memorial Haji Abdullah Mother & Child Hospital. The staff and doctors of the hospital also had staged a protest over unpaid salaries.
After the protest by the staff, both the ruling and opposition parties indulged in a war of words. Former MLA Pramodh Madhwaraj in whose tenure the hospital was handed over to BR Life alleged that current MLA Raghupathi Bhat was responsible for the chaos, which was denied by the latter. MLA Bhat hitting back at Madhwaraj stated that it was rather the reckless decisions by the Congress leader which caused the situation.
