Udupi, Jun 26: Minister for agriculture B C Patil flagged off the fallow land agricultural activity by driving the tractor himself in a paddy field. This programme was organized at Kadekar in the district on Saturday June 26.
Speaking on the occasion, minister Patil said, “The days are with real farmers. MLA Raghupati Bhat is doing the work that should have been done by the government. Schemes of this nature are like guiding light to the government. Letting he land barren without doing any agriculture is like treachery. Leaving the land barren is like not letting the offspring grow on mother earth.
“Nearly 60% of employment is due to agriculture. In our state there is 15 lac hectares of fallow land. We are using fertilizer and pesticides in farming. In the midst of this MLA Bhat has given stress to organic farming. The state government has released a grant of Rs 500 crore for this purpose. Due to organic farming, in addition to health, the fertility of the soil also gets preserved. All people representatives have to take this scheme as a model.
“I also belong to an agricultural family. When I was young I have planted the saplings. Later I worked in the police department and in movie industry. There I did not get the chance to till the land. I am happy that I got the opportunity to till the land today,” he said.
MLA Raghupati Bhat, entrepreneur Bhuvanendra Kidiyoor and Udupi district BJP president Kuyiladi Suresh Nayak were present.
