Karkala, Jun 26: MLA V Sunil Kumar informed that a new programme, 'Vatsalya', has been envisaged under which health check-up of the children aged less than 15 years is done as a precautionary measure.

Sunil said that all the precautions had been taken to block the advancement of coronavirus second wave in the taluk including extending medical assistance. At the same time, he revealed that the oxygen units under construction in Hebri and Karkala hospitals will become functional in July.

Sunil Kumar said that a health check-ups under the 'Vatsalya' scheme is being conducted in the light of the expert opinion that the third wave might harm children more. "We will be organizing the health check-up camps in 230 Anganwadis and 220 government schools including private school children. The scheme will be initiated on June 28 and every day the camp will be held at ten places where the health of 100 to 150 children will be examined," he said.

The MLA said that over 40,000 children will participate in this camp during July and August. In each of the camps, medicines which support nutrition and immunity power of the children would be supplied free of cost. If needed, a scheme to extend help to get further treatment is also in force, he stated. "We have already identified over 675 children including 241 children suffering from malnutrition and 430 who suffer from different diseases. All preparations to stop the third wave have been made," he said and solicited support from the parents.

District in charge minister Basavaraj Bommai, will inaugurate the programme at Pervaje school at 10.30 am on June 28. In two months, 400 camps will be conducted in two taluks. A team of 40 doctors will be participating, the MLA explained.
