Karkala, Jun 26: "Because of power-hungry Nehru clan, India was divided at the time of independence. If we had waited for ten more years, undivided India would have become independent and the dream of integrated India would have become a reality," said Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader, Dr Prabhakar Bhat Kalladka.
He was speaking at the live programme on the dark days of 1975 emergency held at the office of the MLA here. "India became independent due to the sacrifice of lacs of patriots who organized processions and held protests. During the period of Indira Gandhi, corruption, unemployment, nepotism and maladministration made the people to revolt. Under the leadership of Jayaprakash Narayan, protests were held against Indira Gandhi all over the country. The then railway minister had also tendered resignation. Indira Gandhi, just for retaining power with herself, used law for selfish interests and declared the state of Emergency in the country at midnight. Leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and L K Advani were arrested overnight," he explained.
He recalled that Janata Party won the election after the emergency with a huge backing. Indira Gandhi, in her press statement, blamed the RSS for her defeat, blaming the organization for campaigning against her through whispers. He analysed that the country has now become strong because RSS faced emergency in a fitting manner then.
