Mangaluru, Jun 25: As the common man is struggling to come out of the economic crisis brought on by the Covid induced lockdown, passengers who travelled in KSRTC buses in the city are alleging that the KSRTC buses are charging exorbitant fares for the commuters.
Speaking to Daijiworld, Rajesh from Talapady alleged that he had travelled in KSRTC from Kotekar to Talapady on Thursday, June 24. The conductor issued him a ticket of Rs 15. Earlier, from Talapady to Thokkottu, KSRTC used to charge Rs 10. Earlier to attract passengers and make them prefer KSRTC buses over private buses, the fare was less. However, since during the current condition private buses were not operational, people are compelled to travel in KSRTC buses leading the latter to charge exorbitant prices.
When speaking to the divisional controller of Mangaluru, he denied the allegation that KSRTC is charging an increased fare to the commuters.
Moreover, the government's Covid-19 guidelines and the rule of maintaining social distance is something few of the buses are seen discarding.
