Mangaluru, Jun 24: As the lockodwn restrictions were relaxed in Dakshina Kannada (DK), commercial activities got momentum on Wednesday June 23. People thronged cloth and footwear shops.

The number of people were less in vegetables and meat shops as they were open during the lockdown period also. Most of the shop owners were seen cleaning and setting their shops. After 11 am, crowd swelled in the city.

Most of the shops were open in taluk centers of Sullia, Puttur, Kadaba, Bantwal, Beltangady and Moodbidri. However, the shops closed at 2 pm as per the guideline given by the district administration. Though the district administration gave permission to serve food in hotels for 50% of seating capacity, most of the hotels preferred giving parcels only. Customers were also less in hotels.

Traffic was heavy in the city of Mangaluru. As Smart City works are also in progress there were traffic chaos right from morning. Streets of M G Road, Hampankatta, Bunts Hostel and near Town Hall saw maximum traffic. Police had a tough time controlling the commuters. After 2 pm, policemen beefed up the checking of vehicles. People who were roaming without valid reason were fined by the cops.
