Bengaluru: Teacher who put up 1947 Re 1 coin on OLX duped by Rs one lac

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Jun 23: A teacher from here had put up her prized possession, a rupee 1 coin belonging to the year 1947, through an online marketplace, OLX, with the hope of getting a good price. Cyber thieves who enticed her by offering to pay Rs 1 crore for the coin, cheated her by collecting one lac rupees from the teacher.

The teacher who was taken for a ride in the incident happens to be a 38-year-old woman residing at Wipro Gate on Sarjapur Road here.

On June 15, the teacher had placed an advertisement on the OLX platform, offering to sell a one rupee coin belonging to the year 1947. She also provided her cell phone number. An unidentified person called her and won her trust. She believed him when he said he would buy the coin for one crore rupees. Later, he told her that the money had been transferred to her account and sent a fake screenshot of the transaction to the teacher by WhatsApp. The teacher later found that the money had not been credited to her account. She then called the above person again.

The cheater then made her believe that transfer of huge amounts entails the payment of a fee. He got the amount transferred to his account. In later days, he also got further sums of money in the guise of RBI fee, tax etc. In this way, the teacher transferred one lac rupees to his account. The teacher was frustrated that no money was transferred to her account.

As the man again sought payment of the fee, she filed a complaint against the man with the police. The police said they have registered a case and a probe is on.

She should have told him to deduct tax and other charges from his 1 crore, just as banks do. Otherwise cancel the transaction.

This is a very common mode of operation used by National or International fraudulent group using Cyber as their mode operation. About one year back, I had put an advertisement in one of the Web, for sale of my used TV and started receiving calls from many parts of India, out of Karnataka, saying ,we will buy your TV and transfer the funds via google, etc etc. I made it a point, only local Tulu speaking people will be entertained. Without visit & checking my TV, I will not sell it. Latest International Cyber crime is On line trading and asking for credit card number. Their marketing strategy is fantastic and very convincing. Be careful. All liars have a very sweet, convincing language.

I don't understand how this dumb head became a teacher. I think school management should reconsider and concel her appointment immediately on the ground lack of common sense in the her head. If she had cultivated habit of reading daily, atleast one news paper or electronic media in one of the news portals, she would have gained some common sense as well as knowlege of happenings at present days world. Let God forgive her for lack of common sense being a educated teacher. Greed is grave sin. Anyway, let God bless her and create some good sense in her blocked brain for future safety.

If at all, the teacher had consulted her husband about all such secret dealings she could have been safe from such loss. May be she wanted to make a pleasant surprise. Hoped for the best but got the worst !
