Udupi, Sep 1: Secretary of Sode Vadiraj Mutt Education Trust, Ratnakumar, informed at a press conference held here on Tuesday August 31 that a new college named Sri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management, set up by the trust, will begin functioning from the current academic year onwards.
He said that the foundation stone for the building of the engineering college had been laid by Sri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt in the presence of Sri Vishwavallabhateertha Swamiji of Sode Mutt at Vishwottam Nagar in Bantakal village near Shirva on January 22 this year. “The building was completed within six months. All approvals and sanctions for the college have been obtained,” he confirmed. He added that the new college is being equipped with all the facilities as per the norms laid down by All India Council for Technical Education.
He informed that besides the appointment of Dr S K Ashok Kumar as the principal of the new college, experienced teaching staff and non-teaching staff have also been recruited. “A college library, which has a rich stock of books needed for engineering education, has been set up. Physics and chemistry laboratories have become fully functional. As an encouragement on the occasion of the college opening, all students, irrespective of their categories, will be levied fee as prescribed by the government. Those who join the college this year will have to only pay the same concessional fee during the future years till the completion of their education,” he declared.
In the initial stages, the college will impart education in civil, mechanical, computer and electronics and communication departments. In addition, the college will also teach English and Kannada languages as prescribed by Vishweshwaraya Technological University. The college will also arrange to teach Sanskrit to interested students, he explained.
