Mangalore, Aug 30: Explaining the potential plans for the development of Konkani language, School of Konkani Studies director Dr William Da Silva informed that to translate the literature from other languages to Konkani is one of the main initiatives to be taken up soon.
He was speaking at the valedictory of the two-day Konkani Research Harvest Conference held at Dr M P Pai Memorial Hall in Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here on Sunday August 29. He also expressed an immense interest to publish a Konkani lexicon to help those who are interested to learn Konkani language.
After the last session, the editor of Raknno Konkani weekly paid a tribute to all those contributors of Konkani language and culture who passed away in the recent past.
As a part of the programme, Louis Mascarenhas Konkani Nalanda Puraskar, a special award was given to Irene Pinto nee Castelino for her immense contribution towards Konkani literature. Selected Konkani litterateurs and artists were also felicitated on the occasion.
Various future projects were laid down at the valedictory ceremony. Apart from translating and introducing literature from other languages to Konkani, publishing the literature of Konkani writers and starting a Konkani journal with a vision to bring together Konkani people scattered all over Karnataka were among other plans.
Various researchers presented their papers in the two-day workshop proving the amount of quality of research that has emerged in Konkani language.
