Mangaluru, Jun 16: In an incident which happened in the city recently, a caller who posed as a representative of a courier company, succeeded in transferring a sum of Rs 1, 69,600 from the victim's account.
The man who called the account holder introduced himself as an employee of a courier company. He said that the area pin code number in the parcel sent to the other person had been wrongly mentioned. He said that if the parcel has to be delivered, a charge of ten rupees will have to be remitted. He sent a link to remit money to the customers' cell phone.
The customer mentioned UPI PIN and remitted ten rupees. He later came to know that Rs 1.69.600 was transferred to the account of the fraudster from the three accounts to which the mobile number was linked.
The police who registered the case are investigating.
