Mangalore, Aug 28: A dalit family residing in Kulai said that the policemen of Peenya station in Bangalore assaulted one of its members, Sonu. Sajani, sister of Subhash, searching whom the police team came here, said that her sister, Saina too was taken to Suratkal station and meted out mental torture, while her old-aged father, Sahadev Panikker, was posed death threat.
Sonu alias Rashmit is being treated in a private hospital here.
Subhash (22), member of the above family, who is a good dancer, used to work as an assembler of aluminium furniture in Bangalore. He used to visit B Ed College for giving dance training to students and fell in love with a student, Manjula. Reportedly, Manjula, who was once married earlier, had got separated from her husband. Both of them reportedly decided to marry, and went missing about two weeks ago. Peenya police had come to investigate a missing case filed by the family of Manjula.
The family members of Subhash say they do not know his present whereabouts. The family has already approached assistant police commissioner, Girish, and sought his help. Girish met Sonu at the hospital and collected details from him personally. Dalit organizations including Democratic Youth Federation of India have rushed to the help of the family, and plan to file a complaint with the scheduled castes and tribes unit of the directorate of civil rights enforcement here, about the incident.
