Mangalore, Aug 28: Demanding action against the guilty in the case of illegal appointments in Mysore University, activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organized a protest demonstration in front of the administrative block of Mangalore University on Friday August 27.
“It is proved that retired vice chancellor of Mysore University, Dr Shadhidhar Prasad, and Bijapur Womens’ University vice chancellor, Dr Syeda Akhtar, who were involved with making appointments illegally and against whom criminal cases have been filed, are guilty of the charges. The state Governor, instead of showing inclination to punish the guilty, is showing interest in protecting them. ABVP condemns this move,” the activists said, raising slogans at the protest venue.
ABVP city unit organizing secretary, Vinay Jadhav, noted that retired vice chancellor of Mysore University and veteran Kannada writer, DejaGou, was in the forefront of the movement demanding classical status for Kannada. He recalled that at that time, DejaGou used to raise his voice against the corrupt people. “When his own son got involved in corruption, DejaGou resorted to Satyagraha in favour of his son. This is tragic,” he commented.
He criticized the Governor for speaking in favour of Prasad and Akhtar, who have been held guilty by Justice Ranga Vittalachar Commission and Justice Chinnappa Murthy Commission, respectively. “In contrast, our Governor has been insulting Mysore Unviersity vice chancellor, V G Talwar, who is honest,” Jadhav stated.
Various activists of ABVP including district convener, Purushottam, Mangalore taluk convener, Sujir, Mahesh, Dashrath and others participated in the protest. An effigy of Shashidhar was also burnt by them on the occasion.
