First ever double century in India's history: Both petrol, diesel cross Rs 100 per litre mark

New Delhi, Jun 12 (IANS): Sri Ganganagar, a small city in northernmost part of Rajasthan near the India-Pakistan border has become the first city in the country where retail prices of both auto fuels -- petrol and diesel -- have crossed the century mark.

The city already had the distinction of having the highest pump price of petrol across the country at Rs 107.23 a litre. With diesel prices now increasing there by another 25 paisa per litre on Saturday it reached Rs 100.06 a litre.

However, the record may not be held for long as elsewhere in Rajasthan as well, especially towns near the border areas, diesel is expected to touch the Rs 100-mark soon.

Similarly, a few places in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, where by virtue of higher VAT rates, fuel prices are always much higher than rest of the country. Premium fuels have already been above the Rs 100-mark in several cities for past few months.

What had brought fuel prices closer to Rs 100-per-litre-mark is the consistent increase in retail prices done by oil marketing companies for last five to six weeks.

Even on Saturday, OMCs raised the price of petrol and diesel by 22-32 paisa per litre across the country, the second consecutive increase in as many days.

With the latest increase, the retail prices of petrol and diesel increased by 27 paisa per litre and 23 paisa per litre to touch Rs 96.12 and Rs 86.98 per litre, respectively in Delhi.

In Mumbai, where petrol prices crossed Rs 100-mark for the first time ever on May 29, the fuel price reached new high of Rs 102.36 per litre on Saturday. Diesel prices also increased in the city to reach Rs 94.45 a litre, the highest among metros.

Across the country as well petrol and diesel prices increased on Saturday but its retail prices varied depending on the level of local taxes in different states.

With Saturday's price hike, fuel prices have now increased on 23 days and remained unchanged on 20 days since May 1. The 22 increases has taken up petrol prices by Rs 5.72 per litre in Delhi. Similarly, diesel have increased by Rs 6.26 per litre in the national capital.

With global crude prices also rising on a pick up demand and depleting inventories of worlds largest fuel guzzler -- US, retail prices of fuel in India is expected to firm up further in coming days.

The benchmark Brent crude is currently close to $74 on the ICE or Intercontinental Exchange .

Wondering - what happened to those then opposition voices who stood on the streets and criticized PM Manmohan Singhji ... then India paid US$130-140 per barrel yet our petrol was costing around 65 Rupees. Today we pay US$ 50 or less and our petrol prices have brought our roofs down. Why no mockery being demonstrated on the present generation of politicians? What have we done to our country?

How has this guy accumulated so much of wealth only I'm 2021, any guesses? A rally in the stocks of companies controlled by Indian billionaire Gautam Adani has added almost $43 billion to his wealth this year, catapulting him to the spot of the second-richest person in Asia. Some analysts say the gains are fraught with risk. Adani’s net worth of $76.7 billion got a boost from a 330% jump in Adani Total Gas Ltd., a 235% rise in his conglomerate’s flagship Adani Enterprises Ltd. and a 263% increase in Adani Transmission Ltd. this year. Adani group stocks, especially these three, “look extended," Bloomberg Intelligence analysts Gaurav Patankar and Nitin Chanduka wrote in a June 10 note after analyzing technical indicators.-Deccan Herald-

greatest achievement of Modis and his Govt. Shows their utter ineptitude at managing the economy. If crude had hit USD 120/barrel (as happened earlier when Dr. Manmohan Singh was PM), what would Modi have done? - raised prices to Rs. 200/ltr? Building Ram Mandir will not solve this problem - it needs competence and brains, both of which are missing. looks like we have to go back to bullock carts with 'cowpower'.

It is indirectly looting the public and helping the fraud corporates. Moreover the corporate taxes are reduced from 30% to 25% . Every country is increasing the corporate tax since pandemic. It is a shame that you have such a mentality. The governments job is to make sure all the citizens are provided with equal opportunities. All of us in the country have a right to better life. And for most of the citizens vehicle is not a luxury but it a necessity. But perhaps it is with the mentality of the people like you do not allow the country to prosper. Your blond love for one man and for what god forsaken reason is leading this country to destruction and yet you do not want to understand. Perhaps this country is destined for destruction before you open your eyes wide.

There is no point in discussing or debating about the fuel rates now. It is as clear as daylight that the Modi government has failed on all counts. The people were disenchanted with the previous Congress government and that is why the present government was voted to power. Yes, the previous government was guilty of a lot of corruption but hand on heart, it ensured that the people were not inconvenienced beyond a certain limit. Prices of essentials were well controlled and the common man did not have to bear the brunt. This government is totally clueless about what is going on and it is just taking a shot in the dark. There is absolutely no control on anything - the price of edible oil has nearly doubled in a year - and therefore, the people whether they are supporters of the Congress or the BJP or any other party, should now introspect and ask themselves if they want further gloom and agony in their lives or they want a better tomorrow for themselves and their families. Our future is in our hands.

Let the government shrink it's expenses, shrink the expanded cabinet with good for nothing or multiple persons for one post. I.e. DCMs in Karnataka. Till when we citizens will keep feeding these greedy ministers ?? How did MMS (mind it, not Italian) government manage with double the cost of crude oil to give us petro @half of what is Modi government giving ?? Despite that Indian economy wasn't bankrupt, we had a strong GDP upon handing over to BJP.
