Bengaluru, Jun 11: Over 30 seers of different religious community Mutts from different districts called on deputy chief minister and state’s higher education minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan at his residence in Bengaluru on Friday and demanded the appointment of only a Kannadiga as the vice-chancellor of Sanskrit University in Magadi taluk in the outskirts of the city.
The Swamijis also discussed other issues and urged the deputy chief minister to see that the state government resolved them quickly.
They also felt that measures need to be taken for the dissemination of Sanskrit and to provide irrigation facilities in the districts of dryland regions (Bayalu Seeme) of the state.
Sri Shantaveera Swamiji of Koladamatha, Sri Basavalinga Swameeji, Sri Shivakumara Shivacharya Swamiji of Tumakuru Hirematha, Sri Basavalinga Swamiji of Soluru Chilima Matha and other seers of ‘Akhila Bharata Sanatana Mathadi Patiala Okkuta Seva Trust’ were present.
Dr Narayan, who was given the memorandum said steps would be taken at the earliest to resolve the issues related to Sanskrit University.
He also stated that the state government was giving priority to facilitate irrigation in the state.
IIT Madras Alumni Trust donates 200 oxygen concentrators
The IIT Madras Alumni Charitable Trust hands over 200 oxygen concentrators of 10 lac litres capacity to Karnataka when their representatives called on the deputy chief minister, who is also the state’s Covid task force chief.
Dr Narayan, who received the concentrators on behalf of the government, said the IIT Madras Alumni Trust has donated so far more than USD 2 million towards Covid relief efforts in India and appreciated their gesture.
He said the Trust played a vital role in the logistics and in liaising with the Government of Karnataka to hand over the oxygen concentrator units and also thanked the trust for generously donating the concentrators.
IIT Madras Alumni Krishnan Narayanan and Rama Harinath along with the adviser to the chief minister, Prashanth Prakash were also present on occasion.
