Udupi, Jun 11: “We have discussed the salary pending issue of Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Memorial Haji Abdullah Mother & Child Hospital with the hospital administration and government officials. They have submitted a letter to the government stating that they are unable to run the hospital and urged the government to take over,” said Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat.
“The government is not in a position to maintain the hospital. It is mentioned in the MoU that the hospital is for charity and not for business purpose. We had withdrew our staffs and they were transferred to other hospitals. The design of the hospital is not suitable for a government hospital and hence it is difficult for the government to maintain it. I have asked them to include one unit of government doctors and two other units of BRS Hospitals. Within next 10 days, a state level meeting will be held and decision will be taken. BRS Hospitals should continue managing the hospital. According to ZRR rules of Udupi, no permission will be issued for B-3 level. The 400-bed plan of BRS Hospitals had begun the construction of B-3 area without notifying the same to the district commissioner, town planning and municipality.
Being the MLA, I have supported them in all the matters.
“The hospital is claiming the payment of Rs one crore under Ayushman Bharat scheme and around Rs 30 crore for dialysis treatment in the government hospital for which BRS had received tenders from all over Karnataka. The Ayushman Bharat refund amount will be settled within 4-5 days so that it will be helpful for the hospital administration to pay salaries. Now the question is who will run the hospital in future? The former government did not proceed with a permanent agreement and systematic process. I urge to include a unit for 70 beds. According to the MoU, no medicine should be supplied by the government. But in the current situation, we are providing medicine as well as seven doctors for assistance. I urge B R Shetty not to drop the project. We will provide all the necessary help for the smooth running of the hospital,” he said.
Udupi city BJP president Mahesh Thakoor was also present.
Prior to the press meet, the MLA and Udupi deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha held a meeting with the hospital administration regarding the issue.
District health officer Dr Nagabhushan Udupa, district surgeon Dr Madhusudan, and administrative representatives of Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Memorial Haji Abdullah Mother & Child Hospital were present.
